Christian values

The specific Christian Values of Love, Respect and Courage underpin, and are intrinsic to the ethos and belief of Saint James CoE Primary School.

Our vision

At Saint James we accept challenges, take risks and work to make to make positive change in ourselves and our community.

Focusing on building resilience and compassionate relationships allows everyone to flourish.

Using our Christian values to guide us, we develop skills to navigate rough seas and transform our world.

Be strong and courageous and do it.
1 Chronicles 28:20

Presentation aims

  • To ensure children are taught to take pride in their work.

  • To raise the importance of the work the children are doing.

  • To reflect the high expectations the school has of the children’s work.

  • To provide finished pieces of work in line with the school’s high expectations that can be shared with any audience.

  • To provide consistency for the children in their work.

  • To provide the necessary rigour to the children’s work.

Expectations of written work in the classroom

  • Each piece of work in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 will be dated.

  • Each piece of work in Key Stage 2, and in Key Stage 1 where appropriate, will have a learning objective or title and a date underlined with a ruler.

  • If a mistake is made a single line will be put through the mistake and the correction written by it. It will be expected that there will be no crossing out or rubbing out in their work unless particularly necessary.

  • Children will be taught to write on the line. They will be taught to start at the margin.

  • If a child is starting a new piece of work on the same page as another piece a clear demarcation between the two pieces of work is needed.

  • Handwriting pens will be used by the children when their writing is legible and joined. Pencil may be used in Mathematics.

  • Children will be taught to keep the covers of their books neat. No writing will be on the books unless it is required by the teacher.

  • In Key Stage1 and 2 printed labels with names and the subject will be stuck on their books.

  • Teachers’ feedback will reflect the high expectations of presentation.
